Loved this so much all the foraging for mushrooms, blackberries, & recipes too.
I thought i was picking a beautiful ripe blackberry the other day on my walk & ate a poisonous mulberry i think. i became deathly nauseous 10 hours later & puked my guts out. Be cautious if you are an amateur forager like me. I'll stick to buying blackberries. Loved also the info on the new smoker you bought too. Might have to look for one it sounds so delicious.
I never tire of reading about Julia and Paul! Such a great piece! And now the big decision—what to make from Mastering the Art of French Cooking! Or maybe that blackberry Turnover!
Loved reading about Julia (again)! I was lucky to come of age shortly after she became famous. The first thing I learned to cook were cream puffs using something called a whisk at a friend’s house. Promptly bought one and showed my Mom how useful it was. Neither of us ever looked back! 🤗
I loved the inclusion of the blackberry piece. As a displaced Washingtonian living in Michigan, the forest smells described in your writing brought me right back home to my childhood. Blackberries (and huckleberries) are a summer favorite of mine. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and a Saturday morning smile.
The amazing thing about the smoker is that it does not fill the house with smoke. None. But what you do get is a lovely, fairly faint, scent of smoky meat.
I need a bigger kitchen. I fell back in love with poaching - so a larger Le Creuset. Now this. Maybe I can store them in my hall closet!
My hallway cabinets have been slowly taken over by kitchenware 🤩.
Well then, a wise trend!

Thanks for the warning!
Loved reading about your summer in the forest! I think the smoker is now on my list, it sounds easy and versatile.

Blackberry season is one of the best. Loved seeing the Smithsonian piece again.

Beautiful article about Julia, about Paul, about them and all they brought to us. Thank you for sharing it!
Lovely article about Julia. Question: Does the smoker fill your kitchen with smoke?

Amazing! I was just wondering about the smoke. So tempted....
Okay then. I’m getting one. Do you have an affiliate link so that you can monetize it?
No. I don't do that.
Thanks, Ruth.
