RUTH! I’m so happy I had the sense to subscribe. I missed you and still grieve our beloved Gourmet Mag. Those Bastards. So stupid. Now we’re surrounded with stupid.

Let’s keep listening to our young people and follow their leads, sit 🪑 right down in a dark restaurant after following a fisherman with just caught gems 💎 of the sea. Trusting. Expanding out horizons, being intrepid travelers.

I too miss my wonderful issues of Gourmet . I’ve saved many of them and can’t bear to put them in the recycling bin!

I always assumed that the menus you posted were from events you attended, maybe I hadn’t read them closely enough until today. Have a wonderful trip to France. One of my most memorable meals in France occurred during a bike ride on Ile de Re. My husband 2 sons and I rode past a beautiful open air restaurant where we quickly made a u-turn and enjoyed the freshest raw oysters and a delicious carafe of white wine.

Most of the menus I post ARE meals I've eaten; I have a huge collection. But someone gave me this menu as a gift, and I find it truly fascinating. I hope you do too. As for the Ile de Re - some of the best food I've ever eaten was when I was working on the Ile d'Oleron (before they built the bridge).

My frequent trips to Italy also included some moments of serendipity upon finding several “off the beaten track” restaurants. It’s a wonderful surprise.
