Reading ' A Young Food Writer Dines with the Stars,' demonstrates that the difference between a wonderful writer and a writer is that one voice stands the test of time and the other gets lost in the times. This is to say--They'll be reading Ruth's work years and years from now, too.

Pumpkin soup at 21 was quite sophisticated. I made pumpkin soup for a dinner party and served it in a pumpkin. This was about 40 years ago and I thought I was also quite sophisticated. Unfortunately, my twenty-something friends thought it was a terrible idea and except for one passed on the soup.

Ahhhhh Dinah! My Uncle Harold lived down the road from her in PalmSprings at Tamarask CC. He was always running into her on the "morning walk", before it got hot out. Don't think he ever got to dine with her. Your story is delightful, specially the part that Monsieur Millau, mis-timed the chops. Sad gray lamb chops. How real!

Years ago I tried Dorie Greenspan’s “pumpkin stuffed with everything good” and it came out an inedible mess! Your recipe looks tempting enough that I will give this concept another try!

I loved reading todays post especially the menu. We went to Napa in October of this year and visited Trefethen. So wonderful to visit a third generation winery and then see a menu from 1982 with one of their 1979 vintages. Such a wonderful history lesson through food and wine. I look forward to tomorrow’s post.
