This menu says so much about the food of that era and why a generation grew up disliking vegetables. I love it that you could order a bowl of cereal for dinner along with a hot cup of Postum. Thanks for sharing this delightful menu.

Absolutely love mango purée. Thank you, Ruth. I am testing some ice cream recipes and trying to duplicate a mango ice cream my neighbor used to make. Now I have sourced the mango purée when I don’t have ripe mangoes!

Ruth, really enjoy this blog! I learn so much from it!! I wonder if you know if lyles golden syrup is an invert sugar? Can it be substituted for corn syrup in hot fudge? Does my hot fudge crystallize because the recipe doesn’t contain corn syrup?

I have read every one of your books and later listened to them. I loved every word. I always enjoy the menus. When I was 19 In 1969 I was flying from LA to Detroit after a disastrous 1 month marriage. I decided to get something to eat at the airport and was stunned to see that a hamburger was $1.00! Starvation made me give in and since it was Valentine’s Day I was served a T bone steak in coach. With real plates and silver. I hope that you are still putting out books and this page is so much fun.

I think there's nothing better with Indian food than mango puree. My Indian friends just peel a ripe mango and puree it in a blender. I recently had the idea to make mango chutney, but so far my local grocery stores sell very green mangoes that don't ripen well. Any suggestions about getting a good ripe fresh mango?

Well, I was having a conversation recently with friends about tuna casserole. How I use canned mushroom soup to make it. How that horrified one friend. How that {mock, for sure!} horror got a giggle out of another friend. And how another said, in her home growing up, tuna wiggle was the name used for tuna casserole. I checked it out on the web and it was prevalent in the Northeast in a generation ago. Apparently people often argue over the dish and how to make it. What I know, for me, is I luv it!

From out of left field comes this question: Have you ever heard of tuna-wiggle?
