Feb 2020 I was traveling around the Texas, New Orleans and Florida escaping Philadelphias winter. I was following the soon to be opened Laser Wolf on Instagram, hoping to get a reservation as soon as I got back to Philly. I got home 1 week before lockdown. The first restaurant I went to once Philly opened to outdoor dining was Laser Wolf. It was a typical Philly night, hot and humid. My husband, 2 of our sons and I were curbside and no a/c but the food was incredible and we were so happy to be out eating in Philly at last! One of the best memories from 2020.
For once, three resto menus that actually appeal! Here in Los Angeles, I look at menus and think, “there is nothing on this menu that I want to eat.” And, after being served, my initial thought is validated. Yesterday, $8 for one tiny taco! One!
"By the way, if you do manage to get a reservation, you will want to order the crispest french fries on the planet. They’re an extra $13, but you won’t want to miss them." "The fried potatoes are absolutely irresistible." I'm really into potatoes. By chance, do you have the recipes for each? Do they happen to be fried in duck fat?
I will subscribe because I read and saved Gourmet from 1974 until the final issue. I treasured the reading spent and the recipes I collected. I would love to have some of the recipes for these food photos, lemon pistachio cake looks delectable.!!
My husband has celiac disease, so I was excited to see "rice waffle flour" and a "rice waffle." Most of us who are celiac-adjacent are also label readers, of necessity, so I was disappointed but not totally surprised to find that the "rice flour" is actually half wheat flour. Oh, well. I do wonder, though, if the 13 colonies' rice flour was actually all rice? Probably?
The Anson Mills 13 colonies is a blend of rice and wheat flours. They do sell a GF flour blend as well and would likely know if it will work as a substitute for the 13 Colonies flour. Good luck. https://ansonmills.com/
Some people look at photos of puppies to make them happy. I look at these photos and feel the same!

Wayne Christenson: Look up crispy Crumbled Potatoes on the Smitten Kitchen website. That recipe and photo looks really close to Ruth’s photo.

I have thought often of the brief time Bridge Creek was in existence and regret its passing. Do you know why it lasted such a short time?
