We were on our usual Springtime drive from Tucson to Asheville and stopped in NOLA for a few days. We had lunch at Dookie Chase’s and shared a table with father and daughter from the city. At the end of lunch, he insisted on paying the tab for the 4 of us and there was nothing that I could do to dissuade him. My most memorable time in the city even with all the great restaurants and things to do.

How you keep track of all these wonderful menus, articles etc. I’ll never know. You must have a terrific filing system and a very good memory !! I quickly read one recipe.....can’t imagine putting a cup of butter in anything, but oh my, it sounded delicious !!

I visited NOLA in February 2020. I felt lucky in a lot of ways. 1) I came back covid free!2)I saw NOLA before the pandemic. 3) I ate classic food from restaurants mentioned in the article in this post. We stayed in a tiny apt/hotel just a couple of streets over from Croissant d’Or and went there almost every morning to eat breakfast in their courtyard. The food I ate on that trip will be part of my treasured travel memories forever.

These newsletters are too out of touch and I love Ruth. $350. Meat. Ultra pricey fish when folks are trying to get thru the pandemic. Old menus which are unreadable. Nostalgia about fabulous meals 20 years ago. And now with the war in Ukraine, these posts are more painful. We can’t all be Jose Andres, but we do all have some connection to the world around us. Sadly, I will unsubscribe and hope to connect with Ruth again when she is more relevant.
