Currently writing this from my parents porch in Kinderhook, where I grew up and visit often from NYC. YES to Morningbird for the coffee and small selection of baked goods (highly-recommend the mochi donuts, which also happen to be gluten-free), and to every other business in the Kinderhook Knitting Mill, too: Aviary, and the Kinderhook Bottle Shop, and OK Pantry has a spectacular selection of fun and unusual food items, housewares, foreign candies. Highly recommend!

So happy that you gave a mention to Staron’s Farm Stand! Donna is a neighbor and we look forward to her opening every summer. Her sweet corn is amazing and her New Elfe potatoes make the very best German potato salad. Have you been to Dan’s Diner on Rt 203? I had a rockin’ BLT with fresh squeezed lemonade there last week with my best friend visiting from Michigan!

Another evocative gem that makes me want to visit Hudson. (When I have recovered.) Am in Spain with CA. My god, what a week!

We have hotels, restaurants and museums all on the itinerary. Thanks for the nod to Chruchtown Dairy! I know that we are looking forward to our trip that begins with the Rockefeller Estate and has stops in West Point, Dia Beacon, Hyde Park...and then Kinsley, Tivoli and Hudson per your recommendation! I know I will return home well fed with a stocked pantry.

HI Ruth, Please remind me of the brand of curry sauce you recommended months ago which I bought and LOVED and neglected to keep the label for re-ordering. Thanks for your great articles and posts. Been a fan for decades.

Well small world, talking about Hudson, N.Y. We visit there every August since it's an easy drive from our Air B & B in Great Barrington. I'm sorry to learn that the Breadfolks Bakery is no longer in Hudson. Last year we discovered the humongous antique/junk mall called the Antique Warehouse. I recommend it for variety, (fun) and good prices.

If you happen to be at the Clark and want supper at some point, Mezze is a farm-to-table restaurant just outside Williamstown that's very much worth a visit.

I had no idea you were living way up there. My son & family just moved to Saugerties. I'll be over for a visit in early August and will follow your suggestions, especially for Talbott and Arding which I've been hearing about for years and can't wait to visit. Thanks, Ruth!

I adore Ruth’s writing. She is by far, the best living food writer on the planet, right now. Happy Canada Day, Ruth. Love Sandy Naiman. Toronto.

Yep! I shop at the other Guido's and have given https://honest-food.net/how-to-purge-sand-from-clams/ to Johnny, my great fish monger there. Also, Rachel Roddy's recipe for Vermicelli with Clams in her book An A - Z of Pasta is the only recipe I've ever seen that calls for straining the clam juice, which is critical to a perfect dish of pasta. For this I use a small glass pour-over coffee maker with a fine filter. I often give this as a gift with the recipe.
