Oh my gosh! I’m so excited to read your new book!! I too have read them all and am proud to say that for my birthday my husband added Mmmmmmmm a Feastiary to my collection. Thanks for sharing all of your memories on this site. We all love reading them.
I remember the elaborate facade of La Seine... but I never dined there. I think it was sold when I was still in elementary school. You may enjoy these images and articles from the Ann Arbor News, a paper I used to deliver as a kid! https://aadl.org/taxonomy/term/63343
These pictures are fantastic! Thanks so much. What I remember about the chef is that he was fat, was always making me bring him drinks from the bar, and that he went through the garbage cans behind the restaurant every night to make sure nobody was stealing food by wrapping it up and burying it in the trash.
It’s easy to see that these treasured memories of people and places are difficult to give up. However the overwhelmingly gratitude you must feel for the life experiences you have had must reverberate in your soul.
How wonderful! I had that book, Mmmmmm-! But a family member might have borrowed it and we can’t locate it! I loved it, and still have Alice’s Restaurant Cookbook, which I purchased at the same time. Very cool inquest items. You are so lucky!
Oh, this brought back wonderful memories of reading “Tender at the Bone” and becoming a Ruth Reichl fan for life! I think I’m going to find that book on my shelf and read it again, not for the first time. I had a mother very similar to yours in her cooking style, so could really relate to many of your memories. Thanks for the joy you bring me while reading your books.
I’ve read every single one of your books, and I have enjoyed them all and your comforting writing style. When I think of what I’d like most for Christmas, it’s a box set of all your books beautifully bound to match the beautiful words!

Wow, so exciting about Le Bernadine! How much did it cost???
