Seems appropriate to end the year with a few old fashioned predictions. These are almost forty years old, and looking back, it really does seem like a different world. (Among other things, how is it possible that Alice is the only female chef? I hope the choice of chefs came from the editors and not from me.)
I hope this new year brings you peace, health and happiness.
I have to admit that I have yet to buy anything from e-fish.com — but I will be remedying that situation very soon.
After I wrote about the wonderful Browne Trading Company a few days ago, I got a note from Colman Andrews telling me about a company that specializes in very fresh seafood. “Caught today, delivered tomorrow” is their motto. I’ve been haunting the website ever since, dreaming about live Dungeness crabs and spot prawns, fresh American eel, black cod… It’s a very enticing site. As if I needed any more persuading, the company has Jean-George Vongerichten’s endorsement.
Speaking of Jean-Georges…..
And since we’re talking seafood, let’s end the year on a truly nostalgic note. Not sure what year this is, but that note about “no service less than 25 cents” is rather telling.
That’s all til next year. See you in a week.
Abalone $1.50. Imagine!
Thank you, Ruth! It’s been such a delight…and I’m so glad you’re continuing. Spending a little time with you with a hot cup of coffee has started my day for the last month and I’ve savored every word, every menu, and each little suggestion to make life a little more fun!
