I can't wait to try those crackers! I grew up with my mom making a much simpler version complete with soft cheese from a jar. I upgraded to using grated cheddar over the years. This with multiple mustards sounds fantastic.
Oh, man editors.... What was it Raymond Chandler said? I once had an editor who changed every instance of "possess" to "posses". I threw a dictionary at him and missed.
We lived in Tokyo 1986-87 with an apartment, schooling, medical, virtually everything paid for by our company. But not food. We learned to eat and appreciate Japanese food, but we certainly never had the pleasure of dining at --nor could we afford-- one of the fine restaurants there. We go back frequently and now can enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed this account of Tokyo. Anything you write is delightful, but this piece really hit the spot. Thanks.
I will try the crackers, need to get mustard seed.
The California wines are from many of our favorite wineries where we have been tasting (and purchasing) thru the years. So many new wineries are here now, in the mid 80βs that was a very special list. Still is!
Thank you - crackers sound wonderful! Isnβt it time to start Gourmet again??

How thrilling to see Wente at a tasting of California wines in New York - the Livermore Valley today is very much under the radar.

Wow, interesting article. Haven't heard Gerald Asher's name in awhile.
